Medicine and Medical Supplies
The majority of donations will go towards purchasing medicine to
treat water-borne diseases like cholera and malaria and purchase basic medical
supplies like IV needles, bandages, and sutures. Diagnostic kits and
equipments need to be bought at the cheapest price.
Safe Water Supply
Since there is obvious in need of safe water supply
for a long run, BRN has initiated and started drilling deep tube wells to supply
safe water and sanitation purposes in strategic villages in BOGALE township. The
budget has been allocated.
Prevention
"Prevention" refers to means of preventing further occurrence of
diseases. This includes the purchase of cheap water purification system to
prevent dysentery from drinking brackish water and nutritional supplements and
basic food supplies to combat malnourishment. Sanitary latrine
construction is very important in those villages in the delta area.
Fuel and Transportation
There is a price for everything. Burma is not an exception. Transportation,
buses and boats, needs to be arranged, fuel has to be bought at black market
rates, and accommodation needs to be arranged with some price. There are some
people needs to be actually "hired," namely and truck drivers. The most substantial overhead cost
is fuel and transportation due to rising costs in Burma.
Volunteers and Staff
Overhead costs for BRN are not very large due to the fact that management team, most
essential staff and mobile team leaders are volunteers. There are a few
people who are actually "hired," namely boat and truck drivers, cook and manual
laborers. However, with the past 2 month experience, since local
physicians were hired by NGOs left and right, dedicated local physicians for BRN
need to be reimbursed allowances for their time like other NGOs in future.
